Negligent Security

Negligent security is a kind of premises liability. Failures or negligence of security comes in different areas, depending on the location (hotel, restaurant, business, private residence). Some of the most common negligent security measures include:

• Poor lighting in parking lots and corridors
• Deficient windows and door locks
• Open access to keys to apartments or failure to replace locks when residents move
• Lack of security cameras in likely places of danger

If a student is attacked while they are at school, either in the high school hall, or walking to their dorm room, it may be possible to hold the institution for not providing a safe environment. Adequate security is a must these days, even in places of education. Apartment buildings, hotels, motels, bars, and more are also required to have security in place. Again, property owners may be negligent if someone is assaulted by a third party in these places.

Injuries from these attacks run the gamut, including cuts, bruises, fractures, knife wounds, and bullet wounds, as well as rape and sexual assault. Muggings, rape, and drive-by attacks may be random, but they do not have to happen if the property owner has provided the best security possible.
